Rescue Dog Mouse
Her escape from the dog meat trade
Mouse was found softly whining under a pile of waste. She was terrified, in pain and her mouth had been been bound with tape – so tightly that it had cut deep into her skin.
We don't know how she ended up there or how long she had been in pain, but thanks to kind-hearted rescuers, Mouse was brought to safety and transferred to our partners Paws for Compassion in Vietnam, where they provided her with the urgent medical care she needed.
After weeks of treatments, gentle care and love, Mouse started healing slowly. Despite the obvious trauma she endured, she remains the sweetest and most trusting dog. Her resilience and ability to trust humans again, even after being treated so cruelly, is truly inspiring.
Now, Mouse enjoys the company of her foster owners while she patiently waits for her forever home.
Mouse was lucky to escape the horrors of the dog meat trade in Vietnam. Unfortunately, that is not the case for hundreds of other dogs that, unlike Mouse, they are still trapped in the brutal meat trade, awaiting rescue.
Each year, over six million dogs and cats are slaughtered in Vietnam. They are often stolen from their homes, leaving their families in great distress, or taken from the streets to supply the demand. The trafficked animals are then transported in terrible conditions, hungry, scared and in pain to the brutal slaughterhouses. This is the dark reality of the Dog and Cat Meat Trade.
FOUR PAWS is committed to ending the dog and cat meat trade sustainably in Southeast Asia and relieving the suffering of millions of animals by reducing the theft of dogs and cats, decreasing the demand for dog and cat meat, and introducing appropriate legislation and supporting enforcement to end the trade.
