Our closest living relatives, the great apes including gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans, are rapidly losing their forest habitats due to human activities like agriculture, mining, and commercial logging. This habitat loss, along with their vulnerability to transmittable diseases, poses a serious threat to all great apes. Our close genetic relatedness is not only reflected in behavioural similarities but great apes including humans also share an extended period of infancy which is key for learning.
FOUR PAWS supports the welfare and rehabilitation of orphaned orangutans at the ORANGUTAN FOREST SCHOOL conducted by our partner Yayasan Jejak Pulang in cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry.
